London, November 29 (Reuters)-At the Fashion Awards held in London on Monday, designers and celebrities paid tribute to Virgil Abloh, and the late Louis Vuitton and Off-White creative forces were named industry change leaders.
Abloh, the American-born son of a Ghanaian immigrant, later became the most high-profile black designer in the fashion industry. He died on Sunday after fighting a rare cancer for two years.
The 41-year-old has also worked as a DJ and visual artist, and has been the men's art director of luxury brand Louis Vuitton since March 2018. read more
"Genius, disruptor... (he) will be deeply missed by everyone," senior designer Tommy Hilfiger said on the red carpet. "He inspired designers and the public."
Designer and TV personality Tan France called Abloh "unbelievable and visionary...(who) did the most beautiful work."
Abloh founded the brand Off-White, known for mixing streetwear with high-end suits and dresses during Vuitton. His influences include graffiti art and hip-hop.

"Everyone here talks about Virgil, everyone here is influenced by his talent," said actor Gabrielle Union (Gabrielle Union).
At the awards ceremony, a photo of Abloh was projected on the stage. The designer is one of 15 individuals and brands who was named a change leader for his actions in helping the environment, humans and creativity in the past year .
Others on the list include Balenciaga designer Demna Gvasalia, Gucci creative director Alessandro Michele and Fendi womenswear and fashion art director, and Dior menswear designer Kim Jones. Jones was also named Designer of the Year at the awards ceremony.
Michelle also won the Trailblazer Award, while Hilfiger received the Outstanding Achievement Award.
70-year-old Hilfiger said: "I am very grateful, grateful and humble, but I am very happy to be here and I am very happy to continue to maintain business development."
Demi Moore, Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Dua Lipa are the celebrity guests participating in this event, which is a fundraising event for the British Fashion Association charity.
